Basic Guitar Set Up - $50

Our basic guitar setup involves essential guitar maintenance tasks, including adjusting the guitar's neck relief, string height (action), intonation, and ensuring that the nut and bridge are properly set. This process also includes cleaning the guitar, potentially oiling the fretboard depending on the wood type, and polishing the frets. A proper guitar setup not only guarantees that the instrument plays comfortably but also ensures it sounds its best. For those considering guitar service pricing, understanding these setup components can help in making informed decisions.

*Excludes Floyd Rose and like Tremolos. For guitar maintenance and service pricing, please refer to our comprehensive guitar setup options.

1. Neck Relief Adjustment (Truss Rod):

The neck relief is the slight curve in the guitar neck. Adjusting the truss rod (if the guitar has one) can correct this curve, ensuring the strings don't buzz against the frets and that the action isn't too high. Additionally, adjusting pickup height and tightening loose jacks, knobs, or tuners is essential in overall guitar maintenance.

2. String Height (Action) Adjustment:

This involves adjusting the bridge and/or saddle height to set the distance between the strings and the fretboard. The goal is to find a comfortable height for the strings that minimizes buzzing and allows for easy playing, which is a crucial aspect of a proper guitar setup.

3. Intonation Adjustment:

Intonation ensures that the guitar is in tune at every fret. This is typically done by adjusting the bridge saddles, a vital part of the guitar service process.

4. Nut and Bridge Adjustment:

The nut and bridge are crucial for string placement and height. Adjustments to the nut slots can prevent string buzz, especially at the lower frets. Bridge adjustments fine-tune the action and intonation, contributing to overall guitar performance.

5. Cleaning and Fretboard Conditioning:

A basic setup includes cleaning the guitar body and fretboard. Fretboard oiling (especially on rosewood or ebony fretboards) can help prevent drying and cracking, ensuring the longevity of your instrument.

6. Fret Polishing:

Polishing the frets can improve their smoothness and playability, enhancing the overall experience when playing the guitar.

Additional services:

Fret Leveling: This process addresses uneven frets, which can cause buzzing or intonation problems. It involves filing down high frets and crowning them to restore their proper shape, an essential part of guitar maintenance.

Fret End Dressing: Fret ends can sometimes protrude or become sharp, especially after humidity changes. Dressing them involves smoothing and rounding the fret ends to prevent snagging on fingers, contributing to a comfortable playing experience.

Refretting: When frets are severely worn or damaged, they may need to be replaced entirely. This involves removing the old frets, preparing the fretboard, installing new frets, and then leveling, crowning, and polishing them, which can be a significant aspect of guitar service pricing.

Nut Replacement: A properly fitted nut is crucial for comfortable playability and accurate intonation. Replacing the nut can address issues like incorrect string spacing, height, or material.

Electronics and Pickup Services:

Pickup Installation: Replacing or installing new pickups can significantly alter the sound of an electric guitar. This involves wiring the new pickups into the guitar's electronics, a key part of any comprehensive guitar setup.

Electronics Modifications: This can include adding features like coil splitting, phase switching, or kill switches. It can also involve replacing faulty components like potentiometers or output jacks.

Rewiring: Rewiring can address faulty electronics or allow for more complex wiring configurations.

Pedal Board: Built accordingly.

Hot Temps and High Humidity Sale!

Why is humidity important for guitar maintenance?

Wood Movement: Guitars are primarily made of wood, which is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs and releases moisture from the surrounding air. This is crucial in ensuring proper guitar service and setup.

Seasonal Changes: Humidity levels fluctuate naturally with the seasons, making it important to monitor and adjust as needed for optimal guitar performance.

Consequences of Poor Humidity:

Dryness (low humidity): Wood shrinks, leading to sharp fret edges, cracks, and a lowered action (strings closer to the fretboard), all of which can impact your guitar setup.

Wetness (high humidity): Wood swells, causing the action to rise, resulting in a dull sound and potentially even glue joint failure in extreme cases, which can affect guitar service pricing.
